The Pickwick Landing Dam was established in February of 1934 as a result of a decision made by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, forcing many people to relocate. The building of the dam required clearing 12,590 acres of trees and buildings. An additional 63,700 acres were also claimed for the construction. However, not everyone moved away from the city.
